More than six years after Disha Salian’s death, the case has entered another significant phase with a fresh CBI investigation and a Rs 500 crore legal notice against Aaditya Thackeray and Anil Deshmukh.

Disha Salian died on June 8, 2020, in Mumbai’s Malad area. She was 28. Police initially treated the incident as an accidental death after she fell from a residential high-rise.
The case remained in the public spotlight partly because Sushant Singh Rajput, for whom Salian had worked as a manager, died six days later. Public discussion subsequently connected the two cases, although claims circulated over the years have varied and should not automatically be treated as established facts.
Satish Salian later sought a fresh investigation into his daughter’s death. His legal efforts included approaching the Bombay High Court and asking for the circumstances surrounding the incident to be examined.
The legal situation changed in September 2026 when the CBI registered an FIR after the Bombay High Court directed a thorough probe. According to reports, the FIR includes several names whose roles require investigation, including Aaditya Thackeray and other individuals.
The new Rs 500 crore notice is linked to statements concerning this legal campaign.
According to the notice, Satish Salian alleges that Thackeray and Deshmukh attempted to portray his pursuit of justice as politically motivated and malicious. The notice reportedly says that such claims damaged his reputation and questioned his integrity as a father seeking an investigation into his daughter’s death.
The notice also reportedly disputes statements suggesting that the CBI had previously investigated the matter and given Thackeray a clean chit.
Satish Salian is seeking a public response from both politicians. Reports say he has demanded an unconditional, unequivocal and public apology, with the apology to be circulated through major media platforms and published on their social-media accounts.
Aaditya Thackeray has rejected the allegations linking him to Disha Salian. On September 16, he stated on X that he had never met or known her.
He said his name had been repeatedly connected to the case and described those attempts as an evidence-free campaign. He also called for the official investigation to be allowed to proceed without political intervention or what he described as character assassination.
The current developments therefore involve competing claims that must be examined separately.
The CBI investigation concerns the circumstances of Disha Salian’s death and the roles of individuals identified during the legal process. The Rs 500 crore notice concerns statements allegedly made about her father’s pursuit of justice.
Neither the FIR nor the legal notice by itself establishes that any individual is guilty of a crime or liable for damages. Those questions would require evidence and, where applicable, judicial determination.
The CBI’s investigation is now expected to examine the material available in the case, including evidence connected with the circumstances of Salian’s death. The agency’s findings could become important in determining the future course of the criminal proceedings.
Meanwhile, the defamation-related dispute could proceed separately. Satish Salian’s demand for Rs 500 crore remains a claim made through a legal notice rather than a court judgment.
The case has therefore entered a new stage after years of public debate. The combination of a formal CBI investigation and a major legal notice has once again brought Disha Salian’s death into the national news cycle.
