Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan’s latest theatrical release, Udta Teer, has crossed the ₹10 crore mark at the Indian box office within its first two days. After opening with a moderate collection on Friday, the Hindi spy comedy recorded a significant improvement on Saturday, offering the film a stronger start to its opening weekend.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!According to box office reports citing Sacnilk, Udta Teer earned approximately ₹7.25 crore net in India on Day 2, representing a rise of around 76.8% compared with its opening-day collection of ₹4.10 crore. The Saturday performance pushed the film’s cumulative domestic net earnings to ₹11.35 crore. Its reported India gross collection stood at ₹13.53 crore, while its worldwide gross reached approximately ₹16.28 crore.
Saturday Brings a Noticeable Improvement
The second day proved significantly better than the film’s opening Friday. Although the initial response was relatively modest, the weekend brought an improvement in theatre attendance and ticket sales.
The rise suggests that the film managed to attract additional moviegoers after its first day in cinemas. Saturday audiences generally have more flexibility to visit theatres than weekday viewers, making the first weekend an important period for newly released Hindi films.
The film’s reported occupancy figures also indicated an improvement as the day progressed. Morning screenings recorded occupancy of approximately 8.54%, while afternoon shows reached 27.62%. Evening occupancy increased to 33%, and night screenings recorded around 42.69%, according to published trade figures.
This gradual improvement suggests that evening and night shows contributed to the day’s stronger performance. However, occupancy figures alone do not establish whether a film will maintain its momentum throughout the remainder of its theatrical run.
Ayushmann Khurrana Leads the Spy Comedy
Directed by Aakash Kaushik, Udta Teer marks his directorial debut. The film features Ayushmann Khurrana as Bilal Ahmad, a Pakistani intelligence operative whose life takes an unexpected turn after an explosion causes him to lose his memory.
Bilal forgets his real identity and allegiance. Believing himself to be an Indian counter-terrorism officer, he joins a security unit and unknowingly helps its personnel apprehend enemy operatives. The situation becomes increasingly complicated when another terrorist enters India, adding further tension to the story.
Sara Ali Khan plays Bilal’s wife and colleague. The supporting cast includes Rahul Bose, Ram Kapoor, Gulshan Grover, Mukul Dev, Suhail Nayyar, Supriya Pilgaonkar, Brijendra Kala and Parul Gulati.
The combination of espionage, mistaken identity and comedy gives the film a different approach to the conventional spy thriller. Its commercial performance will depend partly on how effectively this combination connects with audiences.
Sunday Becomes Crucial for the Opening Weekend
After collecting ₹11.35 crore net in India over two days, Udta Teer entered Sunday with an opportunity to strengthen its opening-weekend total.
The second-day jump is an encouraging development, but a single strong day does not automatically guarantee a successful theatrical run. The film will need to maintain audience interest and generate sufficient ticket sales during the coming weekdays.
Competition from other films, audience feedback and the availability of attractive show timings may also influence its performance.
For Ayushmann Khurrana, the film represents another attempt to bring a distinctive concept to mainstream Hindi cinema. Its opening weekend will provide an early indication of whether audiences are willing to embrace this spy-comedy experiment.
With the domestic net collection already above ₹10 crore and the reported worldwide gross crossing ₹16 crore, Udta Teer has made a stronger second-day impression. Its next challenge is to convert that improvement into sustained box office momentum.
