Delhi Police are investigating the alleged gang rape of a 17-year-old girl at Astha Kunj Park near Kalkaji Mandir after three men reportedly posed as police officers and threatened the teenager and her male friend.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!According to police, the teenager and her 17-year-old friend had visited Kalkaji Mandir on Monday evening. They reportedly reached the temple around 7 pm and later went to Astha Kunj Park at approximately 7:30 pm.
The park is located near Kalkaji Mandir and the ISKCON temple. While the two teenagers were in the park, three men allegedly approached them.
Police said the men, who were reportedly between 25 and 30 years old, claimed to be police officers. They allegedly threatened the teenagers and used the claimed authority to intimidate them.
According to the victim’s statement, one of the suspects held her male friend while the three allegedly sexually assaulted her. The accused allegedly threatened the teenagers afterward before leaving the area.
A PCR call regarding the alleged incident was received at approximately 8:45 pm. Police officers from Amar Colony police station subsequently reached Astha Kunj Park.
The victim was located with her friend. Police recorded her statement and began examining the circumstances of the alleged assault.
A medical examination was conducted at AIIMS. Investigators also examined the scene and collected evidence with the assistance of crime and forensic teams.
Delhi Police registered a case under relevant provisions of the BNS and POCSO Act. Since the complainant is 17, the case falls under the legal framework protecting children from sexual offences.
Investigators formed several teams to trace the suspects. CCTV footage from the area was reviewed to identify the men and track their movements following the alleged incident.
One suspect, identified by police as Asif, was subsequently located near DM Office Road in Amar Colony.
Police said that when officers moved to apprehend him, he allegedly fired at them. According to the police account, three rounds were fired. A bullet reportedly struck the bulletproof jacket of Head Constable Rajesh.
Police said the officer fired back in self-defence, hitting Asif in the right leg. The suspect was apprehended and shifted to AIIMS Trauma Centre for treatment.
The encounter location was examined by crime and forensic teams, which collected evidence for the investigation.
Police continued searching for the two other alleged suspects. Investigators are also examining CCTV footage and other material to establish the complete sequence of events and identify the roles allegedly played by each person.
The alleged use of false police identities is a significant element of the case because the teenagers reportedly believed they were being confronted by law-enforcement personnel. Investigators will examine evidence to establish exactly how the suspects represented themselves and how the alleged confrontation unfolded.
The case remains under investigation. One suspect has been apprehended, while efforts to trace the other two are continuing. Further action will depend on the evidence collected by investigators and the findings of the ongoing legal proceedings.
