CHELSEA are keeping tabs on Arminia Bielefeld centre-back Amos Pieper, according to reports.
Pieper, 24, has impressed in the Bundesliga this season despite Arminia heading for relegation.
The defender is available on a free in the summer and the Blues have asked to be kept in the loop in regard to his availability, report The Mirror.
There are several other clubs interested in Pieper, including Borussia Dortmund – with Pieper previously playing for the club’s academy.
Premier League pair Newcastle and Southampton are also said to be interested in the German and Ralph Hasenuttl’s side are keen to strike a bargain.
But Chelsea could be desperate for a centre-back in the summer with Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen seemingly on their way out.
Chelsea will hope a takeover is completed in the next few weeks to allow time to bring in transfer targets.
Pieper has a little more than two months remaining on his contract and with other clubs sniffing around Chelsea could miss out if they are held up by the takeover.
The three remaining potential owners have been asked to give a “final pitch” for control of the club before a final decision is made.
